On June 16, 2010, FUZZ!! is proud to present the first-ever Pittsburgh performance from:

SINISTARR – DETROIT (METALHEADZ | CREATIVE SOURCE | HOSPITAL | PPR)

Sinistarr has cemented himself as a major name in international Drum and Bass. Sinistarr’s distinct sound reflects the musical landscape of his hometown Detroit, Michigan, combining the sounds of Detroit Techno, House and Detroit Electro into his own blend of Drum and Bass, citing main influences such as Aux 88, Drexciya, Derrick May, and Aril Brikha, among many others. As a result, Sinistarr has become one of the most exciting fresh contributors to the American DnB scene as a producer, and DJ.

As a producer, Sinistarr’s music has been supported by top names including Goldie, Marcus Intalex, Fabio (BBC Radio 1), London Electricity and Commix. He has released music on many well known labels including Creative Source (Detroit Diesel), Deep Soul Music (“Recovery”), Hospital Records (Black Diamonds), and works closely with San Diego’s own Peer Pressure Recordings where he also works in their A&R department.

The last 12 months have been huge for Sinistarr. In October and November of 2008 he was featured in Knowledge Magazine, and has also received radio support from the biggest names in Electronic music including Pete Tong on his “In New Music We Trust” show, 4 times on Dj Hype’s show on KISS FM UK, countless plays on Fabio’s Drum & Bass show on BBC Radio One, Bailey and Crissy Cris on BBC 1Xtra, Gereard on Hospital’s Drive-By show (KISS FM) and has also featured on 7 of the Hospital Records Podcasts – one the most played artists of the podcast. Sinistarr has also had tunes released on Offshore’s Buried Treasure 2, MJazz’s Modernists CD and the Hospital Records’ Sick Music CD.

In 2009 Sinistarr Joined Driven AM, the US based Artist Management and Record Label and has released a EP entitled ‘Load Screen’. Additional upcoming releases include a remix for local Detroit band and record label Exchange Bureau Music, original tunes for Qilin Music (ran by Kiat – Metalheadz\Function) Prestige Music, Phunkfiction, collaborative efforts with fellow Americans Mixmaster Doc (31\Creative Source) and Submorphics (Good Looking/Westbay), International artists Redeyes (Bingo Beats, Spearhead – France) Agzilla (Metalheadz – Iceland), and a track featured on Deep Soul Music’s exclusive shoe collab with the world renowned sports clothing line Lacoste. At the end of 2009, Sinistarr also locked a track with the legendary Metalheadz imprint, becoming the first Detroit born and raised artist on the label, a label that has strong ties to the city.

Things are only looking up going into 2010, as Sinistarr is turning more and more heads in a very big way.

NC-17 Bio
Originally starting out with Peter in 2004, NC-17 became a two man operation in 2007 when Korosiv joined the ranks to form one of the most promising acts in the Toronto scene. Aware of their local scene’s competitive nature and understanding that Toronto D&B fans are generally more enamoured with the harder and darker side of the genre, NC-17 chose deliberately to spearhead a rough and ready sound that would win them acclaim from their peers. Initially learning their craft from Impulse of Corrupt Souls fame, the boys began to draw on a huge range of musical and audio-visual influences to create their own unique sound.

Working together as a unit, NC-17 is held together by an obviously close friendship and individual roles within the group. Peter is the eldest of the group and comes from a musical family (his mother was a singer in Turkey during her early 20s). He houses the main NC-17 studio and is an experienced DJ, promoter, producer and University educated film maker. Shawn, a professional drummer and the son of a sound engineer who toured with the likes of Pink Floyd is originally from Ohio. As soon as the two got into the studio together they knew they had something special to offer and Canada’s most promising Drum & Bass production outfit was born.

Citing inspiration from as far and wide as the Goblin, Dario Argento, Wu-Tang Clan, Led Zeppelin, Beastie Boys, Lucio Fulci, Fabio Frizzi, Konflict, Ed Rush, Trace, Jeff Mills, DJ Randall and Pink Floyd it’s clear to see that NC-17 have a solid foundation to build on and already their own musical output is featuring not only in their regular DJ slots around their home city, but also in the sets of DJs as world renowned as Andy C, Ed Rush, Optical, Randall, Pendulum, Trace, Bad Company, Red One, Shimon & many more.

Signing their first two hard hitting tracks to Sinuous Recordings in 2004, there’s now no stopping this duo who have lined up releases on DSCI4, MAC II, Circle, Sudden Def and just recently signing a single to Andy C Ram Sister label Frequency.

Ed Rush background:

Born in west London, Ed Rush originally started out into Hip Hop and electro but eventually found the growing underground rave scene. Fascinated by the breaks in the hardcore sounds at the time, Ed Rush convinced his neighbor, Nico Sykes, to let him produce tracks with him.

Eventually they released “Bludclot Artattack” in 1993 – a journey into the darkcore sounds. While most releases at the time had a certain momentum and feel, the track was like no other, and marked the shift of hardcore’s split into drum and bass.

Ed Rush eventually released follow-ups nearly two years later, this time with DJ Trace, on “The Mutant” in 1995. “Guncheck” soon followed, another track developed in a recognizable Ed Rush style – gangsta attitude, and crunchy basslines.

Ed Rush soon found himself on the cusp of prominence, as his releases in 1996 on the Techsteppin’ compilation, the Skylab EP on the Metalheadz label, and “Killimanjaro” on the Prototype label all helped to define the genres’ direction towards techstep, a two-step style of drum and bass. He subsequently released more tracks on various labels, and his popularity as an artist grew, as did his sound as a producer.

The greatest collaboration was ahead of him though, when he teamed up with Optical. They created their own label, Virus, and their first release was “Medicine/Punchbag,” Their eventual LP, Wormhole in 1998, was released to critical and underground success, and is regarded as a genre classic, as the sounds from that album again redefined the direction drum and bass was headed, and solidified their status as the forerunners of the new sound of drum and bass.

More recently, after a slew of other releases, Ed Rush and Optical have released another genre-defining LP, the Creeps. This was again met with critical and commercial success, as the album helped them to win Knowledge drum and bass award for producers of the year.
