OUTRAGE (UK, Metalheadz, Commercial Suicide)
In the Drum & Bass scene, there are those who follow trends and those who pave their own way. Those who flock to the flavor of the month, while others stay true to the sounds within their souls and produce what they feel, and do so smashingly. Outrage is one of those producers, and over the last decade, he’s seen himself rise from a pirate radio DJ to a prominent producer, teaming up with the likes of Amit and Digital, and releasing tunes on a number of the scene’s finest imprints.
Outrage got his start as DJ Rage, who at the age of 15 got a spot on Shock FM, a pirate radio station out of Bedford. This of course led to more gigs within the town of Bedford, bringing his brand of Drum & Bass to the clubs, where he started to network and linked up with Stomp & Weaver, with whom he first started producing tunes with, leading to his first major release, “Snakes” (with Stomp), on L Double’s Flex Records. With his production career on the rise, his DJ career also started to flourish, with gigs in the United States lining up, helping this now 18 year old DJ truly start to gain some speed within the international scene.
This lead to what was a likely link-up with Amit, then known as Tronic. This duo worked together, honing their talents and releasing tunes on labels like Nu Urban and Chemical Warfare, all the while still concentrating on their own individual sounds. 2002 was the year that they both got massive exposure on their own, and Outrage started dropping HEAVY tunes on labels like L-Plates, Spirit’s InnerActive imprint, Goldie’s Metalheadz imprint, Klute’s Commercial Suicide label and many other dynamic Drum & Bass institutions.
By this time, 2007 rolled around, and Outrage decided to embark on his own label venture, thus Backlash Records was born. Backlash helped Outrage nurture his flair for the abstract, helping him bridge dancefloors with tunes that bring experimentation into the mix, which in turn infused a rebirth of sorts within the scene. While there are many flavors of Drum & Bass out there, Outrage’s work with Backlash opened up new doors for newcomers, as well as gave those who appreciate the dubbier, more classic Drum & Bass sound (the DnB that was unafraid to try new things, freak new sounds) into play. Finding kinship with the likes of Digital and Randall, as well as his reuniting with Stomp, Outrage helped reimagine the Jungle Techno sound of the early Nineties with their new collective imprint, J-Tek, which gained a lot of positive response from fans looking for that epic bloodclart jungle tekno! Outrage also started to work with Aperture and the legendary vocalist Kirsty Hawkshaw; these experiments went over quite well with fans worldwide, heads who appreciated their use of vocals, orchestration and future beats, leading them to set up a new imprint, Whisper Audio.
2009 saw what could arguably be considered one of Outrage’s biggest achievements in releasing an LP with the legend known as Digital. Their collaborative efforts became Red Letter, a blinding excursion deep into the belly of pulsating riddims. Sought after for a while, the tracks that fleshed out this album were second-to-none, and loved by many. With so much work as a producer, labelhead and DJ, it’s amazing that Outrage has the time to do things like create curriculums for music schools in Bangkok, Thailand, where he’s a lead instructor. That really speaks to the work he’s put in – he got his feet wet as a teen, and now he can teach teens the art of creating music, helping them find their voices and push the limits and boundaries of sound… much like he has done in his career from day one. With his dedication and natural need to be different, there’s not telling where Outrage’s sound will take him in the years to come… -khal(dogsonacid)

8/25: OUTRAGE (UK, Metalheadz, Commercial Suicide)
FUZZ!! is proud to welcome the first ever Pittsburgh appearance from an absolute legend of drum and bass. His career started in 1995 on LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking Records, and he has went on from there to become one of the most influential producers to ever grace the genre.

SEBA (Stockholm, Sweden) Secret Operations:Metalheadz
Seba has consistently given us introspective releases through high profile labels such as Good Looking Records, Hospital, soul:r, and now his darker side appears on Metalheadz.
His recent collaborations with vocalists Robert Manos and Kirsty Hawkshaw, has taken his music to another level.
Originating from Ingaro, an island just outside Stockholm, he began producing in the early nineties by making techno, but soon progressed to a more breakbeat-orientated sound, which is known today as drum and bass. Since then he has also touched the musical realms of techno and house under the alias Sunday Brunch. He strives to push boundaries, and continue to find inspiration within himself and many outside influences – swaying away from the reoccurring rhythm becoming prevalent in the music of today.
With the fresh presence of his label, Secret Operations, you can anticipate more activity from Seba in the future.
We are honored to have someone of this caliber play for us at FUZZ!!, and hope you will join us for an evening of exceptional music.
More info to come!
On July 28, 2010 FUZZ!! is proud to bring you the first ever Pittsburgh performance from:
BREAKAGE
Breakage aka James Boyle is never been one to be pigeonholed. Moving effortlessly through styles from drum and bass to dubstep, Breakage has proved himself to be one of the most versatile operators in either scene to date. A prodigious
talent, he already has a number of classic releases under his belt but continues to develop his sound. Combining rich tones and a sense of spaciousness in the mix, Breakage’s music is both subtle yet devastatingly effective.
Never afraid to make an impact, he burst onto the drum and bass scene back in 2000, announcing his arrival with a raucous remix of a hardcore classic, Nasty Habit’s ‘Here Come the Drums’ on Reinforced. He backed up this bold move, however, with a series of EPs for the legendary label proving he was no young pretender. Developing a close relationship with veterans such as Equinox (Scientific Wax) and Threshold (Special Branch), Breakage was at the forefront of a new wave of breakbeat scientists bringing a percussive sound back to drum and bass at a time when the scene seemed to have forgotten it’s jungle roots.
Breakage continued his good form dropping a number of sort after releases for the Inperspective label, his remix of Equinox’s ‘Acid Rain’ twisted the Amen break to new levels and served as a rallying call for producers looking to bring
back the original drum and bass sound. Further releases came on labels including Critical and Scientific Wax, before his debut album release in 2006 ‘This To Shall Pass’ gained wide spread critical acclaim and included some slower tempo
material, hinting at what was to come.
James signed with Shy FX’s mighty Digital Soundboy imprint in 2007, and soon turned heads with the haunting halftime beats of ‘Clarendon b/w Shroud.’ It came as no surprise that he would make waves in the dubstep community with his next release, ‘Callahan b/w Untitled,’ after having remixed one of the scene’s biggest tracks to date, Benga & Coki’s ‘Night’, alongside Shy FX as Digital Soundboy.
2009 has seen Breakage cemented himself as ‘one to watch’ across the British dance music press and taste-making elite. Following on from the superb ‘Together’ earlier this year, Breakage released ‘Run Em Out’ feat. Roots Manuva b/w
‘Higher’ this October and continues his good form with the thuggish reworked ‘Hard’ feat. Newham Generals and David Rodigan released Dec 7th. Alongside his orginal recordings James has also recently turned in remixes for the likes of
Sidney Sampson, David Guetta and the legendary Aswad.
Zane Lowe named ‘Hard’ as his ‘Hottest Record In The World’ on his Radio 1 show and he’s gone on to gain massive support across the airwaves from the likes of has Annie Mac, Mista Jam, Rob Da Bank, Giles Peterson, Ras Kwame, Toddla T, Mary Anne Hobbs, Sinden, Nick Grimshaw, John Kennedy, DJ Bailey, Semtex, Joe Ransom & more.
Since his sophomore LP ‘Foundation’ was released in February on Digital Soundboy, it’s been a busy year for Breakage. Features on the record come courtesy of Skream, Burial, Roots Manuva, David Rodigan, Newham Generals, Kemo and more. Expect bass heavy quality music with a broad appeal.
To quote a certain Mr. Roots Manuva… “Breakage is a man with an ear for deep, deep, sub-sonic frequencies. He goes in low. I thinking he’s talking to sea-life. He’s talking to the squid”.
“His command of sound and the sheer amount of music he can squeeze from so little is phenomenal. Breakage generates bags of deep meditational vibes and effortless forward movement in equal measure. Sometimes simple really is the best” IDJ Mag TOP TUNE 10/10
“Breakage’s beats are packed with more beef than an Argentinean steakhouse” DJ Mag Sept 2009 4/5
“His half-step beats are pure catch your-breath tension. Intense” Mixmag Sept 2009 4/5
